The icon exhibition in Austria 3.12.22 - 15.03.23

The exhibition of the icon painting school of the UCU "New faces of the ancient tradition" in Austria.
Icon painting school "Radruzh" in cooperation with the Austrian Academic and Cultural Bureau
cooperation and at the invitation of the government of the federal state of Salzburg on December 3rd, 2022, opened an
exhibition of Ukrainian icons in the local history museum of Leogang. Works of teachers and students of the "Radruzh" school are presented at the exhibition.
Interest in Ukrainian art is determined by the war in Ukraine and the desire to support the people of Ukraine in this difficult time. In addition, the local museum "Mining and Gothic" has a significant collection of mineral pigments and Gothic works of art painted with these pigments in the technique,quite close to icon painting. That is why presented icons painted in traditional Ukrainian tempera technique with compliance with all technological requirements, perfectly fit into general exhibition of the museum.
The opening of the exhibition was welcomed by the founder and long-time director of the museum, Prof. Hermann Mayrhofer, Ms. Martina Berthold, Deputy Head of Government of Salzburg, Head of the Austrian Bureau of Academic and Cultural Cooperation in Lviv, Mr. Andreas Wenninger. Taras Tymo, a lecturer of PTF and Icon Painting School of UCU, gave a lecture on the traditions of the Ukrainian icon and the approach "Radruzh" to its revival and popularization.
After the opening, a practical workshop on icon painting on glass took place. They imitated the icons from the collection of Ivan Grechko, which belong to the UCU Museum. Austrians and Ukrainian refugees, including children, were present. The workshop was conducted by a teacher of the School, Olya Khmilevska, who was assisted by a student of "Radruzh" from Khmelnytskyi, Diana Bilyk (a resident of Icon painting schools in Salzburg).
The exhibition will run until March 15, 2023.
